I'm very picky when it comes to this type of food, especially being from El Paso. It was very authentic and not Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food from New Mexico. People in back and up front were Mexican, so I was expecting good food and got good food! Tostadas and salsa were served to begin with, they were bland so I got the salt shaker and let it shake! I ordered the tacos de carne asada, those were the bomb! Ok so no one uses "the bomb" anymore, but I just did! They were loaded with tons of juicy, grilled, asada meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, a side of rice, and beans! So I went off my diet while in Silver City, don't judge me, I'll start back up again tomorrow! The tacos were so huge they had to use these cute little taco holders, to hold them in place. And yes they used real corn tortillas, they had to double wrap these chunky tacos, because 1 corn tortilla would have ripped up the taco and make a mess! There were 3 to an order with some spicy green chile at the side, almost like a pico de gallo, but without the gallo or maybe the pico? In other words no tomatoes were used in the production of this delicious chile. Thank-you La Cocina, you made my day after crappy service at The Toad!

Dirt parking lot, signs in front, and if you did not know there was a diner in back you would just plain miss it! Simple place in small town, solid c grade. Nothing special. juast a small local Mexican restaurant. Service a bit slow, Cook a bit slow, and Just be patient, you know what is coming.

I really like this place. Their prices are super reasonable, you can build an awesome burrito with your choice of a million fillings for like $8.00. Love their albondigas. Not a ton of ambiance and most people appear to get carry-out, which I would do all the time if I lived in Silver City. This is my favorite restaurant when visiting Silver City.

Four of us tried four different dishes. I tasted the salsa and decided to go for a 1/2 pound hamburger. They offer 1/4 to 1 pound. The 1 pound has four patties. The burger comes with fries or potato chips or corn chips or salad. and is garnished with mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle & onion. I gave my burger a 2 and added ketchup to get some taste. My wife had the chicken chimichanga and she loved it. We always order the green or red sauce on the side (just in case) and she loved that too.Our daughter who has lived in Taos, NM for years ordered the relleno combo and was very disappointed in the green chili sauce. Our daughters husband (the real chili head) order the green chili stew and told us it was very spicy. The service was polite and a little slow. The take out kitchen was very busy. Over all we gave the La Cocina a 3 and it would have been a 2 without the 5 for the chimichanga. There are better places in Silver City.

I usually like this place, but today we received our order and found a hair floating in our soup, called right away to arrange credit, exchange (it was $11 for a LRG order of Chile Verde) for something but not the same thing, right? Well even though I was told its cool to come in later (bringing the soup), I was turned down because the owner was on vacation and he's the only one who could approve it, even though they all knew who I was and I have never complained or had a problem or even fell short on a tip! What kind of service is that? Not to mention they had already made us a replacement order for our exchange that they where now going to throw away... I know it's Christmas but come on now Scrooge, a hairs a hair!

The food is very spicy. I thought it was just my friend having a sensitive tongue, but he really wasn't kidding! The salsa was hot, and the menudo, while really good, was also super hot. If I didn't have stomach problems that I didn't realize were that bad, I would have enjoyed it because it was flavorful on top of being hot.

Service is good. Portions are very small and very spicy, but I have a feeling that has something to do with the region or area. Just A-Okay.

Great food. I only did take out so I can't comment on dinning in. Looking forward to going again.
